About the space

This is my sweet home in a friendly and safe neighborhood in south Palo Alto. The entire home is shared, with kitchen and laundry facilities and beautiful front and backyard. We have hosted Google interns for last 3 summers and a Stanford student and absolutely loved it. 3 miles from Google campus in Mountain View with a beautiful bike ride on the Baylands. It's 1 mile from California Avenue restaurant and shopping area and California Avenue CalTrain station. I'm a Stanford grad with my 15-year-old daughter and small dog CJ (hypo-allergenic). We live in the home that we’ve owned for 25 years.

Sue was really kind and welcoming during my stay. She made sure the room I was living in felt like home and I appreciate how the living space felt really welcoming. She was also very flexible and accommodating regarding my daily routine, and respectful of my privacy. Any issues I was having (ie. having problems connecting to the internet, the temperature in the room) were quickly followed up with and resolved promptly. Regarding the house itself, the location is hard to beat, approximately halfway between downtown Mountain View and downtown Palo Alto. The house is a bit older and worn, but it didn't really affect my day-to-day life. The family dog, CJ, is really welcoming and the room has cool views of some chickens in the yard. The only major downsides otherwise were the presence of some ants in the bathroom and kitchen early in the first month of my stay, and some plumbing issues with the toilet. Overall, I had a great time staying with Sue and I highly recommend it :)

Staying with Sue and her daughter was an incredibly frustrating experience. In terms of good things, the price is decent, she has most amenities you would want in a rental, and the location is good. As for the bad, when I first came to move in on the agreed date, I had to stay in a neighbor's room because she accidentally rented the room out for a week to someone else. When I bought food for myself, her daughter ate it on multiple occasions (which she did compensate me for), I had to keep the room to my door always closed or the dog would eat my food, there were regular conflicts in the morning with the bathroom, and if you intend to use her silverware/stoveware, be cautious as they were regularly filthy from poor cleaning. Additionally, the house is quite old, and during my stay the toilet, my window, the sink, and garage light all broke. In conclusion, stay here only if you must because of price, and even then I would advise seriously considering slightly more expensive alternatives.
