San Jose city map

Living in San Jose

The largest city in Silicon Valley and the third largest in California, San Jose's population is over a million people. It also covers a large geographical area and includes diverse neighborhoods. Downtown San Jose offers restaurants, shows, and bars in close proximity to each other, and the surrounding areas have a more sprawling, suburban feel. There are lots of employment opportunities in San Jose, including jobs with Cisco, PayPal, and Samsung. The housing costs in the city are high compared to the national average, but they are often lower than those of other Bay Area cities.

Getting around

San Jose offers public transportation via VTA buses and light-rail to nearby areas including Alviso, Los Gatos, and Milpitas, but it's slow and unreliable. The Caltrain runs from San Jose through cities including Santa Clara and Mountain View on the way up to San Francisco. Driving isn't great in San Jose since there's plenty of traffic and limited parking options.

Weather

Located on the south side of the San Francisco Bay, San Jose has mild weather. Daily high temperatures usually range from 60°F (15°C) to 80°F (26°C). Winters are typically damp, and dry, sunny summers provide opportunities for visiting the Bay or swimming pool.
